Return on Investment isn’t something you should accidentally stumble on. It is a result of approving well designed technology business cases.
Manufacturers understand Lean manufacturing, ISO 9001, NIST 800-171, Six Sigma and other philosophies that embody Continuous Improvement. These beliefs run the plan floor and typically guide the back office processes as well.
It is difficult for any company, manufacturers in particular, to stay abreast of the technical challenges, vendors and best practices.
That is why this site was created. The idea is to share best practices in the form of business case templates between manufacturers to help them leverage technology as a tool to potentially address their business challenges.
One area of importance is the shift to use outside vendors to deal with security, business continuity and maintenance because they can do it less expensively and allow the internal IT person (or people) to focus on managing the vendors because in technology oversight is an absolute requirement. All too often manufacturers fall victim to the assumption that critical areas of their business, like backup and business continuity, are being addressed correctly. As our Backup and Business Continuity blog post implies, if there has never been a business plan around business continuity along with appropriate procedures then how is IT supposed to execute to a plan that doesn’t exist?
My 27 years of experience focused on leveraging knowledge from successful companies and applying it to other companies. The Northern Colorado Manufacturing Partnership, an organization I embrace as a volunteer and member, believes in “a passionate and collaborative partnership of manufacturers to share best practices and work on common issues.” This philosophy is the foundation of this web site.
